Formula Bharat originally conceived the FSEV Concept Challenge in 2018 as a test event that would assist student teams in their preparation for the Electric Vehicle category. The competition is an engineering design competition that facilitates knowledge-building in engineering design, management, and procurement processes involved in a Formula-Student Electric Vehicle. Students who participate in this competition find themselves well-prepared to build a physical prototype of a competition electric vehicle.

Over the years, the popularity of this concept challenge grew and it became a fundamental platform that served student teams all over the world. To mark its independent status within the Formula Bharat platform, the FSEV Concept Challenge is now named ‘Pi-EV’ from 2022 onwards.
